Chess Desk
Data Engineer
Build and maintain the data pipelines that feed every GameQuants desk — starting with the Chess desk's engine-evaluation and rating-system infrastructure, then expanding site-wide.
Remote · Full-time · Remote (Any time zone)
This role starts on the Chess desk’s engine-evaluation pipeline and grows into supporting data infrastructure for every desk on the site.
What you'll do
- Build ingestion pipelines from public match APIs and licensed data providers across all desks
- Maintain the engine-evaluation pipeline that powers Chess desk centipawn-loss analysis
- Keep data-quality checks and minimum-sample-size thresholds enforced automatically, not manually
- Support analysts across desks with ad hoc queries and new dataset onboarding
What we're looking for
- Production experience with Python and SQL-based data pipelines
- Comfort working with messy, inconsistently-formatted public sports/game data
- Some exposure to statistical modeling, enough to sanity-check an analyst's request
- Nice to have: chess engine (UCI protocol) or other structured-game-data experience
